Herdade da Maroteira is among a group of estates owned by an Anglo-Portuguese family in the Alentejo region of Portugal for over 5 generations. Originally the 540 hectare farm with its farmhouse built in the traditional style overlooking the surrounding countryside, was dedicated to cork forestry and livestock; it has now been diversified to include a vineyard, producing an internationally acclaimed wine and a cottage for agro-tourism. Situated in the foothills of the Serra D’Ossa, 20km south of Estremoz and 35km North of Evora, the farm is secluded but within easy reach by motorway of Lisbon (2 hours) and Spain (1 hour) and offers opportunities for country activities such as walking and bird watching or just relaxing. There are also sight seeing opportunites in a scenic and historic part of Portugal.
